I was born in 1959 in Germany and grew up in Lahr, a small town situated near the French and Swiss borders, at the edge of the Black Forest. Early on in life I’ve been interested in foreign countries and cultures, travelled through many countries for several weeks, sometimes even months.
During my visit in Kandy/Sri Lanka in 1995, I stayed for a few days at the “Burmese Rest”, a little guest house operated by a Burmese monk. Every morning, he told me stories about “Myanmar”, a country somewhere between India and Thailand, an extraordinary country with golden pagodas, beautiful landscapes and graceful people.
On my way from China to Australia, I decided to visit Myanmar, which I only knew from this Burmese monk. Beginning 1996, I crossed the border from China to Muse, followed the old “Burma Road” to Lashio and continued by train via Pyin Oo Lwin to Mandalay.
Unfortunately, I have never reached Australia. Due to my wife Shwe Yee and our three daughters I settled down in Myanmar. However, I kept my passion for travelling, which also transferred to our children. We love trekking trips with overnight stays at local houses and monasteries or spending some days at the beach. Of course we love to explore other cultures as well and our dream to travel one day to Australia is still very much alive.
I have been living and working in Yangon, the former capital of Myanmar, since 1997. I have learned a great deal about the country, the people and their culture through my work as a travel guide for German tour groups and my longstanding work as director of a local travel bureau.
In order to be able to continue to offer even more flexible, well-developed tours at a reasonable price to my customers, my wife and I decided to open our own agency in 2006.
We love sharing our knowledge and enthusiasm for Myanmar. We enjoy seeing how people immerse themselves totally in the extraordinary culture, and then return home with a full appreciation of the many impressions that they've gained.
We would be delighted to welcome you personally to Myanmar soon. Give us a call! We will provide you with personal, friendly and genuine advice. Together we will plan an unforgettable trip to this extraordinary country!
