NEWS UPDATE
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
thank you very much for your large sympathy, which we had
experienced during the last days.
Our family is well, our deepest sympathy is with all those
affected by the tropical cyclone.
The extent of the disaster is also one week after the storm
not known. Individual press agencies report in the meantime
of up to 80.000 dead or missing and several 100,000 humans
are homeless.
Yangon, the city of 6.5 million people became very quiet. No
electricity, not enough water, not enough gasoline and gas.
Public transportation is very limited, most of the shops and
restaurants are closed and prices are up by 100% and more.
People are very strongly disconcerted as constantly rumors
of an earthquake or a second cyclone going around.
The clearing up work in Yangon continues, but there are
still a lot of roads closed, or only single-lane passably.
The city circular train is not running, as the rails are
blocked by trees.
The Botataung Pagoda at the Yangon river and the Shwedagon
Pagoda are closed. Also the museum is closed because of
clearing up work.
Yangon International Airport serves regular international
and domestic flights’ operations as from the 5th of May and
all domestic and international airlines have resumed their
flights. Hotels in Yangon are open and operating. Other
tourist destinations such as Inle lake, Mandalay and Bagan
were not affected and tourist activities in those areas are
operating as normal.
