7 DAYS / 6 NIGHTS ITINERARY FOR KYAING TONG

Kyaing Tong, is well known for its scenic beauty and many colorful ethnic tribes. Our local guide will take to the Pin Tauk area and introduce you to the villagers of Khun tribes, Red Palaung tribes and Lahu tribes and to Ho Kyin village with Akha tribes, still wearing traditional costumes with silver coils.

Day 01 TACHILEIK – KYAING TONG (D) 
Upon arrival at the Thai/Myanmar border welcome by our English speaking guide. Then drive to Kyaing Tong (appr. 4 hours). On the way you have enough time to stop and visit some villages. After arrival in Kyaing Tong transfer to Private Hotel for check-in. Rest of the day free at your own leisure. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at Princess Hotel.
 
Day 02 KYAING TONG – PINTAUK – KYAING TONG (B,L,D)
After breakfast your local station guide will meet you at the hotel for a hiking tour into the Pin Tauk area. Lush mixed monsoon forest with a view to the plain rice fields looking like a huge, green patchwork blanket shimmering in the water of the flooded paddy fields. Your local guide will introduce you to the villagers of Aka and An tribes. Some are baptized, some tribes still animists. The walk is not difficult, and can be done slowly. Some of the An villages or on hills, appr. a 45% "steep" walk up but for not more than half an hour. Lunch will be in one of the An villages. The An people, known to be the kindest tribe, as there is no case up to nowadays where an An member has ever been violent. It will take about 6 hours to visit the villages, including visits of the houses. Late afternoon come back to Kyaing Tong. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at Princess Hotel.

Day 03 KYAING TONG - LOI TRIBE – KYAING TONG (B,L,D)
After breakfast drive appr. 2 hrs on the road to Maila, a big town at the Chinese Border. From there it will take a 1 ½ hours hike to one of the Loi tribe villages. The Loi preferring to live in huge long houses, including at least 5 families. Before visiting the Lois there is an old monastery, a very beautiful one and very different from the other monasteries. Not more than 20 travelers a year visit that place! Lunch in the Loi village. One hour from here is another Loi village (Wan Seng). Scenery is beautiful and hiking is not difficult. Return to Kyaing Tong appr. at 17:00. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at Princess Hotel.
 
Day 04 KYAING TONG – HO KYIN – KYAING TONG (B,L,D)
Early morning drive to Ho Kyin (appr. 1½ hr drive). Visit Hokyin village with Akha tribes, still wearing traditional costumes with silver coils. If an Akhar woman wants to have her complete costume, it will take about more than one hour. Then walk to near by 3 villages of Akha tribes to see their daily life in those rural areas. Lunch in 1 of the villages. The walk is not difficult, and can be done slowly. In the afternoon, come back to Kyaing Tong. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at Princess Hotel.

 
Day 05 KYAING TONG – LOIMWE – KYAING TONG (B,L,D)
After breakfast drive to Loimwe (appr. 2 hours drive), an old colonial town with different colorful tribes. The main attraction along the way is the scenery on the ascent to Loimwe, which passes through forests, terraced rice fields and a lake. On the way to Loimwe, lunch on the way, you will have several stops to visit different villages. Wan Lun Shan village, walk and explore the native village life; the Ho Lup Akha village where you can see the traditional Akha tribes with their colorful dresses; the Naung Cho Wa tribe, in former times headhunters - nowadays living from pears and other fruits and Pan Wai Lahu tribe villages on the left and right side of the road. Late afternoon come back to Kyaing Tong. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at Princess Hotel.
 

 
Day 06 KYAING TONG – WA-DORF LAGE – LAHU SHI TRIBE – KYAING TONG (B,L,D)
After breakfast drive to the west and park the car at Konma (Wa Village). The Wa tribe, in former times headhunters - nowadays living from pears and other fruits. From here take the path through beautiful scenery and visit different Lahu Shi villages. Lunch on one of the villages. Explore black and red Lahu tribal with their daily life. Late afternoon come back to Kyaing Tong. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at Princess Hotel.

 
Day 07 KYAING TONG – TACHILEIK (B)
AAfter breakfast drive to Tachileik (appr. 4 hours). Upon arrival transfer to the Thai border.
