MERGUI ARCHIPELAGOKawthaung, formerly called Victoria Point, is the southern-most town of Myanmar and the starting point to explore the Mergui Archipelago. Air Bagan is flying every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from Yangon via Dawei and Myeik to Kawthaung and back to Yangon via Myeik and Dawei. Yangon Airways is flying every Wednesday & Friday from Yangon via Dawei and Myeik to Kawthaung and back to Yangon via Myeik and Dawei. Air Mandalay is also flying from Yangon to Kawthaung, but we do not want to offer these flights as Air Mandalay is very unreliable and the flights are often canceled. ^ Top ^ VERY IMPORTANT:Flight reservations for flights to the south via Dawei, Myeik and Kawthaung are often held only on request. Here we receive the information from the respective airline only days before the flight takes place if they fly or not, and even after they had issued the tickets they may cancel the flight. When planning a trip to the south you should take this into account and plan your trip not to tight. Foreign travelers are allowed to travel overland only as far as Mawalamyine. The road from Mawlamyine further south via Dawei and Myeik to Kawthaung is for safety reasons closed. To enter or leave Myanmar via the Kawthaung / Ranong border is still possible. It takes only 20 minutes by boat from Ranong to Kawthaung. If you do not have a visa for Myanmar, you can also get a visa at the border. To be able to get your visa upon arrival at the border you need a permission from the authorities for which we have to apply 4 weeks before arrival. For the application we need from you the same information as we need for “visa on arrival” and you have to bring 4 passport pictures with you. ^ Top ^ Expressboot:There is a daily express boat service between Dawei and Kawthaung.
The express boats are air-conditioned, have a capacity of 150 to 300
passengers and travel with a speed of 26 knots.
