7 DAYS / 7 NIGHTS MOYINGY WETLANDS AND BAGO MOUNTAINS

This extension tour is based on our 6 days extension with an extra night at the Moyingy Wetlands & Resort, a paradise for bird watchers. The 100 square kilometers wetlands is host to 75 species of elusive migratory and resident water birds including: Little Cormorant, Grey and Purple Herons, Indian Pond-Heron, Asian Openbill, Black-headed Ibis, Garganey, Lesser Whistling duck, Pied Harrier, Western and Eastern Marsh-Harriers, Purple Swamp hen, Pheasant-tailed and Bronze-winged Jacanas, Oriental Pratincole, Whiskered Tern, Striated Grass bird, Oriental Reed-Warbler, Zitting Cist cola, etc. We might see an Oriental Darter, Spot-billed Pelican, Cinnamon Bittern, Painted Stork, Wooly-necked Stork, Lesser Adjutant, Pallas's Fish-Eagle, Greater Spotted Eagle, Sarus Crane, Watercock, Black-winged Stilt or Asian Golden Weaver. The Resort offers simple, but clean rooms with air-con and attached bathroom.

DAY 01 YANGONBAGO – MOYINGYI WETLANDS (D)
Early morning drive to Bago (approx. 1 ½ hours). In Bago visit the Kyaik Pun Pagoda with four gigantic Buddha images all in sitting posture facing the four cardinal points of the compass, the interesting Bago Market with varieties of vegetables, flower and commodity goods and the Kha Khat Wain monastery, where daily before 11 o’clock, a long line of monks form a procession to take their noon and final meal of the day. Then continue to Moyingy Wetlands & Resort, a paradise for bird watchers. DAY 02 MOYINGY WETLANDS – TAUNGOO (B)
Explore the natural beauty and wonders of the wetlands on a second bird watching tour from 08:00 to 11:00. You might see an Oriental Darter, Spot-billed Pelican, Cinnamon Bittern, Painted Stork, Wooly-necked Stork, Lesser Adjutant, Pallas's Fish-Eagle, Greater Spotted Eagle, Sarus Crane, Watercock, Black-winged Stilt or Asian Golden Weaver. Then continue to Taungoo (appr. 5 hours). On the way, stop at some villages to study the daily life of the people in the rural area. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for check-in and overnight.


 

DAY 03 TAUNGOO (B)
Taungoo (Kaytumadi City) was founded by King Mingyinyo in 1510 A.D and later innovated by King Minye Kyawhtin. It derives much of its importance these days from the timber trade and the teak forests on which its economy depends visibly seen on the mountain ranges lying to the east and west of the town beckon visitor. Even its ancient empire has long since crumbled; Taungoo remains an important pilgrimage site for Buddhist devotees who flock regularly to Shwesandaw pagoda. Drive by rickshaw through the streets of Taungoo, stroll around the downtown area and the lively market, visit the Cheroot factory, observe the potters by their traditional work and late afternoon visit the Shwesandaw pagoda. Overnight in Taungoo.


 

DAY 04 TAUNGOO – ELEPHANT CAMP – KAREN VILLAGE (B,L,D)
Early morning at appr. 06:00am drive to the Elephant Camp (appr. 3 hours) and learn how Elephants are working for the logging process (at the real Elephant working site). After lunch at the Elephant Camp, continue to the Karen village (appr. 4 hours). Dinner and overnight in a local house at the Karen village.


 

DAY 05 KAREN VILLAGE – PYAY (B,L)
Morning at leisure to study old Karen tradition and learn how they have to struggle to survive in the jungle. After lunch drive to Pyay (appr. 4 hours), also called Prome (the former name was Sri Ksetra), located on the steep bank of Ayeyarwaddy River. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel for check-in and overnight.


 

DAY 06 PYAY (B)
After breakfast visit the downtown and market area and the Shwe San Daw Pagoda in the centre of Pyay (a hair relic Pagoda, a combination of Myanmar and Mon architecture). In the afternoon, visit ancient capital of Pyu Dynasty Srikresttra, where you can find some of the oldest pagodas in Myanmar and a small museum which shows the cultural and architectural development of Pyu people during that time. From there take an oxcart to visit Baw Baw Gyi Pagoda built in 5th century AD with its cylindrical shape and Be Be Pagoda. Continue to Paya Gyi (Big Pagoda), dating back from Pyu Kingdom from 5th century to 9th century AD. Overnight at Mingalar Garden Hotel.


 

DAY 07 PYAY YANGON (B)
After breakfast drive back to Yangon (appr. 6 hours). On the way stop in Shwe Daung, visit the Buddha with the golden spectacles and visit the Shwe Nat Taung Pagoda. Late afternoon you will be back in Yangon. Upon arrival transfer to Savoy Hotel for check-in and overnight.
