13 DAYS IN MYANMAR - THE FAR NORTH

This round trip takes you first to Putao, in the far north of Myanmar. Putao is the starting point for the most daring of hiking adventures. Then you will fly to Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State, travel by car to Bhamo, a small riverside town close to the Chinese border and float down the Ayeyarwady on a chartered boat towards Mandalay, the last royal capital of Burma. This tour combines scenic interest with a study of local life and culture. We visit the main historic and cultural centres as well as many remoter places well off the beaten track. The inhabitants of the Irrawaddy Valley have hardly changed over the last centuries. Wherever you go, the people are very warm, friendly and helpful. The river changes considerably: it is broad with endlessly winding channels just beyond Mandalay, and then dark and narrow as it travels through the third gorge. The countryside changes constantly, with an amazing mountain backdrop.
