BURMA, BIRMA, MYANMAR?
I was born in 1959 in Germany and grew up in Lahr, a small town situated near the French and Swiss borders, at the edge of the Black Forest. Early on in life I’ve been interested in foreign countries and cultures, travelled through many countries for several weeks, sometimes even months. During my visit in Kandy/Sri Lanka in 1995, I stayed for a few
days at the “Burmese Rest”, a little guest house operated by a
Burmese monk. Every morning, he told me stories about “Myanmar”, a
country somewhere between India and Thailand, an extraordinary
country with golden pagodas, beautiful landscapes and graceful
people. On my way from China to Australia, I decided to visit Myanmar, which I only knew from this Burmese monk. Beginning 1996, I crossed the border from China to Muse, followed the old “Burma Road” to Lashio and continued by train via Pyin Oo Lwin to Mandalay. Unfortunately, I’ve never reached Australia. Due to my wife Shwe
Yee and our three daughters I settled down in Myanmar. However, I
kept my passion for travelling, which also transferred to our
children. We love trekking trips with overnight stays at local
houses and monasteries or spending some days at the beach. My
children often ask me when I will show them the snow-covered
mountains. Hope, one day I will be able to fulfil their wish.
Living in Myanmar since 1997 and working in the tourism industry for many years, we finally decided to open our own travel agency to be more flexible and able to offer pre-designed tours and tailor made itineraries for a more reasonable price to each client. Maybe we can welcome even you someday here in Myanmar. Sincerely,
